LATIN America: Bishop Forbids LATIN In Novus Ordo

Spanish born Alajuela Bishop Bartolomé Buigues Oller, 58, Costa Rica, published a July 27 decree which not only repeats the ban of all Tridentine Masses but also bans the use of Latin – or any other language besides Spanish – in Novus Ordo Eucharists.

Since the decree contradicts Vatican II and Canon 928 which both state that Latin is the main liturgical language, it is null and void.

José Pablo Arias Soto, the president of the Costa Rica Summorum Pontificum Association which has been organising for the last nine years the Roman Rite Mass in Alajuela Diocese, double-checked with Buigues who replied that, indeed, “the Novus Ordo in Latin and ad orientem is forbidden in my diocese.”

Arias will canonically respond to Buigues decree which contradicts universal law. He will organise a day of prayer in front of the Apostolic Nunciature on July 31.

The approximately 750,000 Jews living in Spain in the year 1492 were banished from the country by royal decree of Ferdinand and Isabella. The Jews of Portugal, were banished several years later. The real issue is who decided that such people should be bishops in the first place. This man is clearly ignorant and lacks proper formation. The Congregation for Bishops needs to be investigated and re-purposed. There are far too many incompetent and /or heretical bishops today, so unlike the great saintly ones of the past.
