During a Requiem Mass for the soul of the defunct German Cardinal Joachim Meisner (+83), his protégé and liberal successor, Cologne Cardinal Woelki, said that Meisner died between 6 and 7 a.m. while being in holidays in Bad Füssing (Bavaria). Around 6 a.m. noises coming from Meisner's room could still be heard. Around five to seven a friend went to Meisner's room because they were waiting for him in the sacristy, but there was no answer. Meisner was found, sitting in a chair with the breviary in his hands, his eyes wide open.
