Welcome To 2030: I Own Nothing, Have No Privacy And Life Has Never Been Better

By Ida Auken Welcome to the year 2030. Welcome to my city - or should I say, "our city." I don't own anything. I don't own a car. I don't own a …

This isn't a parody, but it should be for all its stupidity. Even so, it's a serious piece by a Young Global Leader and Member of the Global Future Council on Cities and Urbanization of the World Economic Forum.

Speaks volumes about Forbes' political leanings that they'd publish such nonsense.

"First communication became digitized and free to everyone."

Check your cell-phone bill for a reminder what "free communication" costs these days. Then check how much you're paying for internet. Yeah, digitized communication sure became free..

"Then, when clean energy became free, things started to move quickly "

...and pigs began flying, too. Ask New Englanders how much we pay for "clean energy". We have the highest rates in the country.

"Transportation dropped dramatically in price."

Check what you're paying per gallon at the pump... When was the last time galoline "dropped dramatically in price"?

"In our city we don't pay any rent, because someone else is using our free space whenever we do not need it."

...and who pays the landlord for the use of their property, hmmm? Who pays for the upkeep of the buildings?

"When products are turned into services, no one has an interest in things with a short life span."

No one...except for manufacturers who would stand to lose under this contrived arrangement. Also, who wants to use someone else's food processor or toaster-oven? Go to any thrift store and take a good look at the horror lurking on the shelves of the Cooking Appliance aisle.

"Environmental problems seem far away, since we only use clean energy and clean production methods. "

Clean energy is notoriously inefficient and still can't supply society's energy requirements. Nuclear power could, but nobody wants to be the next Chernobyl or Fukushima disaster.

Clean production? Check the costs of "green" items today.

"I still do not understand why in the past we filled all free spots in the city with concrete."

Last time I checked, there are no "free spots" in a major city all the land belongs either to the government or to a private owner.

"When AI and robots took over so much of our work, we suddenly had time to eat well, sleep well and spend time with other people. "

The long-term unemployed and the homeless are already living in your dream world. They tend to spend their time with other people begging for money on street corners.

"Those who got upset with the political system and turned against it. "

That's odd... you haven't mentioned any political system at all. Until now this has all been one economic fantasy. Yes... please do tell us what sort of a political system will bring such joy. Let me guess. Socialism, right? :P

"We had all these terrible things happening: lifestyle diseases, climate change, the refugee crisis, environmental degradation, completely congested cities, water pollution, air pollution, social unrest and unemployment."

Your fantasy didn't address "lifestyle dieases". From the sound of things, it will create a new class of them. Saying the word "clean" doesn't magically make climate change disappear, either.

If you think the world has a refugee crisis now, just wait until you see the third-world hordes moving into "Fantasy City". You'll have congestion on an entirly different scale.

Or are there border guards keeping those poor refugees out? Strange... President Trump implements such solutions and all the world condemns him for it.

Reconcile the fantasy of low uemployment with the fantasy of when "AI and robots took over so much of our work".

Authors like this "Young Global Leader" are nothing more than the next generation of unrealistic Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez eco-socialist who, when the fantasies run out, simply jacks up the taxes like her kind always do.
