Illegal Muslim Immigrants 'Take Over' Church in Lyon

About fifty young Muslim migrants have been spending their nights since 8 December in the very large and central Saint-Sacrement Church in Lyon, France.

They were moved from nearby tents where about 140 illegal immigrants live. There is a mosque 5 minutes away.

With the agreement of the archdiocese, the parish is allowing them to stay. The parish priest, Renaud de Kermadec, refused to ask the police to intervene until a "solution" was found. He claims that Sunday Eucharists take place 'in good conditions'.

The Archbishop of Lyon, Mgr. Olivier de Germay, has called on politicians to find a "lasting" solution for Kermadec's clients.
