Dear Friends of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest,

Time flies! It is already more than four months since our community took ownership of the convent in Ardee. Since then we have been working flat out in preparing it for occupation!

We are very grateful for the warm welcome we received both from local authorities and the people of the locality. It is gratifying to be the recipients of such hospitality. We appreciate it.

I have been going to Ardee every week these last few months to get the place ready for our sisters. Although the convent was in very good condition, it is surprising the amount of work that needed attention in order to ensure the general upkeep of the residence.

This entailed the cleaning of the gutters. And you can imagine the volume of gutters in a building the size of our convent! You won’t be surprised to know that we had a few water leaks to deal with as well!  Whilst the surrounding fences were sturdy some parts of them had been breached, creating gaps that threatened security. They required remedial attention. The alarm system was serviced and the fire alarm, restored.

Getting all of these things in order was a priority. Now we are confident that the security of the convent ‘campus’ is well fortified, particularly in light of the presence of a young family from Belfast, who have volunteered to live there whilst awaiting the arrival of the Sisters. We are truly blessed. This family has a great love for the convent. It has become very dear to them and they shower their care and attention on every aspect of the place, inside and out, whilst at the same time longing for the eventual arrival of the sisters.

I am very grateful to those who helped me out to locate single beds and mattresses. I am still looking for some dining room tables and chairs. For ease of transportation, I’m hoping to find them close to Ardee! I will need them for the summer camp! I’m also still looking for two fridges!

I have recently been given kneelers for the chapel, along with flower boxes with a difference! They are made of refined glossed wood on stands that both look lovely and hold an array of flowers, plants and shrubs. These structures are installed in the convent veranda. Canon Heppelle, Abbe Dodd and Michael came from Belfast to help unpack the van filled with these and other necessities for life in the convent, using the opportunity to revisit us in Ardee. It was wonderful to see them again!

The gardens around the convent building have been lovingly reconstructed and manicured, outlining their original shape with precision. Now you can see the borderlines and pathways. Pruning of the shrubs, rose bushes and flowers augments their overall lushness and grassiness. They look wonderful. I am indebted to all those who worked so hard to bring about this transformation. Now the sisters will have a place to walk, contemplate and pray outdoors, on those days when the sun is shining, and also perhaps on the days when the Irish mist freshens the skin and energises the spirit!

We have been working on organising the library for the sisters. A lot of books have already been donated. Soon we will have the library in place.

Three core infrastructure measures that support a fulfilled religious life, I believe are access to a chapel, library and garden. All three are basic components of the convent in Ardee. Deo gratias!

I’m sure some of you would like to come to see the convent? Hopefully we will be able to organise something for you during the summer.

I invite you to add Canon Fragelli to your prayer list. He is a member of our community and serves in Gabon, in Africa. He was very ill with pneumonia and then contracted the virus. He became critically ill and was brought by air ambulance to Florence, Italy where he is slowly recovering. We are appealing to Our Lady to intercede for him to be restored to full health and to be able to return to his mission in Africa. Our sisters’ vocation is primarily support in prayer and service to the sacred priesthood. Please add your prayers to that of the sisters as we commit Canon Fragelli into the safe hands of Our Lady.

Who are we?

United and integrated with the Institute of Christ the Sovereign King Priest and sharing its spirituality, the Sisters Adorers of the Royal Heart of Jesus Christ Sovereign Priest have the particular vocation to pray for the sanctification of priests, especially those of the Institute, and to support them in their apostolates. During their years of novitiate, the postulants and novices are formed in the religious life and seek to unite themselves ever more closely to the divine Master, especially in daily Eucharistic adoration.

Founded in January 2001, the community brings together religious sisters of many diverse nationalities, especially this year when the novitiate opened its doors to postulants from Switzerland, Spain, Brazil, Malaysia, Ukraine, France, and several from the United States... During the first months of their formation, French and Latin classes are emphasized, minds open, travelling around the world and around the cloister, in contact with each other, called and united by Our Lord into one heart, that of the Catholic Church, within our dear Institute.
