Archbishop: A Gaffe?

The new Francis Archbishop of Genua, Italy, Marco Tasca was consecrated a bishop on Saturday and chose for his episcopal motto the words contained in the Gospel of John: “Ostende nobis Patrem” – “Show us the Father.” These words are pronounced by the Apostle Philip and cause Christ to severely admonish him. Philip says to Christ: ““Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Christ answers, “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” It must be presumed that Tasca chose these words by mistake.

At Least $1.4 Billion For the Church

The Catholic Church in the United States received at least $1.4 billion or perhaps even $3.5 billion from the U.S. government's coronavirus relief program. Associated Press writes that Catholic dioceses, parishes, schools and other ministries have received approval for at least 3,500 forgivable loans. The money is used to retain over 400’000 jobs. New York Archdiocese, for example, received 15 loans worth $28 million. St. Patrick's Cathedral was approved for at least $1 million. The anti-Catholic Catholic Charities received between $90 million and $220 million. The program distributed $2 trillion.

BLM: Anti-Catholic Hate Againt Rears Its Ugly Head

Violent protests in America allow anti-Catholic hate to rear its ugly head, Jeffrey Peters writes on BaltimoreSun.Com. He recalls that Maryland, a Catholic colony, has often been invaded by mobs who burned churches, torn down statues, and spread anti-Catholicism. Peters mentions the Ku Klux Klan and propaganda to rewrite history and to besmear the Church. This propaganda regards also Christopher Columbus, a faithful Catholic who never had slaves, never killed anyone, never raped anyone, and never committed genocide. To smear him, was a way to smear Catholics, Peters explains. Now, Columbus’ statues are being torn down along with many saints and even those of Christ while trolls on social media besmear the Church. This is not about correcting “wrongs” of the past but about using lies to wrong the present, Peters writes.

The Old Spire Will Be Back

French President Emmanuel Macron’s project has flopped. After Notre Dame in Paris burned and its spire came down, Macron wanted to replace it with some off-the-hook construction. The idea found few followers. Last Thursday, Macron said that he “acquired the conviction” that Notre Dame should be restaured to is former state. This is a victory for the architect Philippe Villeneuve always wanted to restaure the spire, but was told by Macron’s overseers of the restauration to – quote – “shut the f*ck up.” Notre Dame belongs to the State.
