Kostadin Kostadinov, leader of the pro-Russia+ nationalist party "Wasrashdane" told Bulgarian National Radio BNR that the low turnout was a verdict for Bulgarian democracy, as two-thirds of voters were not interested in Bulgaria's future. A large part of Bulgarian society had boycotted the political elite, Kostadinov said, stressing that he made no distinction between the politicians of the other parties because they were "uninteresting/unspectacular". Other parties do not want to comment yet.

The German High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Christian Schmidt, sent a message yesterday to the citizens of BiH ahead of today's general elections: "My Office will monitor the Process, and I will intervene if necessary" he threatened the still not fully sovereign state.

He has far-reaching powers, including the dismissal of democratically elected officials, the enactment of laws and the creation of new authorities.

Left-wing parties lose significantly in Bulgaria. Their pro-EU government was toppled by a vote of no confidence in June. Presumably, a conservative, critical towards EU, centre-right government will emerge...but the final results will be a long time coming.
