Arab countries: Religiosity on The Rise - Except in [Catholic] Lebanon

Young Muslims under 30 are much more religious than they were four years ago, writes the state controlled Bbc.com (15 July), citing the Arab Barometer 2022 network.

Four years ago, the network had found that the number of non-religious people in Muslim countries was increasing, for example in Tunisia (33%) and Libya (25%).

Now, the number of those who describe themselves as non-religious has decreased: Morocco (-7%; under 30: -10%), Egypt (-6%), Morocco (-7%), Tunisia (-4%; under 30: -16), Palestine, Jordan and Sudan (-4% each).

Bbc.com also claims that there is a "significant percentage" of young Tunisians who have converted from Islam to Catholicism and Protestantism.

Lebanon, where 40% of the population are Christians - most of them Catholics - is the only country where the number of non-religious young people has massively increased (30%; 2008: 17%).
