A Man for All Seasons - Trial (2 of 3)

The second part of the trial scene from the 1966 movie "A Man for All Seasons". Thomas More is on trial because he would not take the Oath of Supremacy recognizing Henry VIII as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, and failure to do so was treated as treason. Roman Catholics such as More had to take the Oath or were tried and usually executed.

"There is one question I would like to ask the witness. That's a chain of office you're wearing. May I see it? (looking) The Red Dragon. What's this?"
(Cromwell) "Sir Richard is appointed the Attorney General for Wales."
"For Wales. Why Richard, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world. But for Wales?"

Cuomo, as is the case with most Democrat politicians, is interested in what is most politically expedient for their careers. Cuomo, as is the case with most Democrat politicians, is interested in what is most politically expedient for their careers. They have sold their souls to the pro-aborts and the sodomites for this very reason. It has nothing to do with core values since these kinds of men have no core values. Their motivation is what kind of legislation is more likely to keep them in office. For, Cuomo, it is passing the homosexual marriage bill. I know, Archbishop Dolan is against it, but he's a weak and, obvioulsy, an ineffective leader of NY's Catholics.

Now, the real question is where is his bishop? I don't expect politicians to speak for the Church but I do expect (hope that) bishops will. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen with the kind of regularity, intensity, repetitiveness and theological reasoning that would affect so called “Catholic politicians.” More importantly, it gives the laity the impression that homosexual marriage (for example) is no big deal and so lay Catholics continue to vote for traitors to the Catholic faith such as Cuomo, Pelosi, Kerry, Durbin, et al. Look at the numbers of NY Catholics who support homo marriage.

Last month, the Public Religion Research Institute, a nonprofit group, reported that 74 percent of American Catholics surveyed supported the rights of same-sex couples to marry or form civil unions (43 percent and 31 percent, respectively). The telephone survey asked more than 3,000 adults to choose among three options: whether gay couples should be allowed to marry, should be allowed to form civil unions or should receive no legal recognition. By comparison, 16 percent of white evangelical Christians approved of same-sex marriages; 24 percent approved of civil unions. Among the general public, those rates climb to 37 and 27 percent, respectively — still lower than among Catholics.

For the explanation of the legislative travesties that exist in the states (abortion, sodomite marriage etc.), look first to either the inaction or the tepid response of Catholic bishops and you will find the root cause of the problem. Catholics do NOT know the Cathoic faith and their bishops are too cowardly to teach it.

A Man For All Seasons is one of my favorite movies and this is a great clip. Here's another great quote.

A Man For All Seasons is one of my favorite movies and this is a great clip. Here's another great quote.

Although it is the law that eventually forces More's execution, the play also makes several powerful statements in support of the rule of law. At one point More's future son-in-law, Roper, urges him to arrest Richard Rich, whose perjury will eventually lead to More's execution. More answers that Rich has broken no law, "And go he should if he were the Devil himself until he broke the law!" Roper is appalled at the idea of granting the Devil the benefit of law, but More is adamant.

What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil? ... And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you – where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's, and if you cut them down -- and you're just the man to do it -- do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!
