Prayer for the honour of the Servant of Gods bishop Piotr Gołębiowski to obtain favour

Servant of God Bishop Piotr Gołębiowski (1902-1980)

The Servant of God, Bishop Piotr Gołębiowski, was born on June 10, 1902 in Jedlińsk, Poland. In 1918, Piotr received grace from the Mother of God while he was sick and suffering a serious illness. He began seminary for the diocese of Sandomierz in 1919 after graduating High School in Radom. Before his ordination, he attended university in Rome. There he received two doctorates, one in philosophy and another in theology. Piotr was ordained priest in 1924 in the Cathedral of Sandomierz. Thereafter he ministered as a seminary professor, as well as undertaking other pastoral roles. He became parish-priest of Baćkowice, Rector of Holy Trinity Church in Radom and parish-priest of Koprzywnica. On June 3, 1957 Piotr was named Auxiliary Bishop of Sandomierz. His episcopal consencration took place on July 28, 1957. As Bishop he once said: “Mary is our hope”. He was renowned as a guardian of Church unity in the face of the Communist regime. On several occasions when he asked for a passport to travel to Rome, he was refused by the Polish Government because of their opposition to his person. In fact, Piotr Gołębiowski was one of two Polish Bishops who were denied participation in the Second Vatican Council. The Polish authorities did not agree with his nomination as Bishop of Sandomierz. Faced with this opposition, Pope Paul VI nominated him, granting him full rights as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese in 1968. Bishop Piotr Gołębiowski was also responsible for the preparation of images of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary that are found in Studzianna (1968), Wysokie Koło (1974) and Błotnica (1977). He died on November 2, 1980 in Nałęczów while distributing Holy Communion. He gained the reputation of being known as “Mary’s Bishop” and the “Martyr’s Bishop”.

Lord Jesus Christ, Chief Shepherd of Your flock, You called Bishop Piotr to be your servant in the priesthood and made him successor to the Apostles. We thank You for his devotion, holiness and for the unity he fostered in the Church. Please help us also to become dedicated to you in generous imitation of the obedience of your Holy Mother. Raise him to Your altars, so that his virtues may be in seen in the Church today and by its shepherds. Through the intercession of Bishop Piotr, grant us, if it be in accordance with Your holy will, the favour we now ask you humbly… Amen.
