He says 'even though' he'll be thankful for the blessings God has given he'll be aware of the "complexities" surrounding the holiday of Thanksgiving. A denial of our founding history - hence a implicit acknowledgement that our civilization is somehow illicit. So yeah, a woke "killjoy" - instead a priest would/should discuss how God in his providence has blessed our nation; and though flawed & even sinful, we should give thanks to Him for his mercy.
