Female Prefects: Leo XIV's Separates Power of Governance from Holy Orders

María Montserrat Alvarado's appointment to lead the Vatican's Dicastery for Communication raises questions about the relationship between ecclesiastical governance and Holy Orders.

Writing on X.com on June 2, Spanish diocesan priest and theology professor Jaime Mercant Simó argued that, at a theological level, it is not appropriate for even a theologically less importat dicastery, such as the Dicastery for Communication, to be headed by a layperson.

Rev. Mercant noted that the Roman Curia is not merely an administrative structure. Every prefect of a dicastery acts with “vicarious power” in the name of the pope.

“Mrs. Alvarado will exercise effective administrative jurisdiction and will have, albeit in an internal manner, real power over the bishops, priests, and religious who work in that dicastery,” he wrote.

He argued that the appointment represents a separation between the power of governance and Holy Orders, from which the Church's munus regendi (“office of governance”), hierarchically ordered, naturally derives.

If, for the apostate María Montserrat Alvarado, Christ is not necessary for salvation, then what is the use of Prevost?

Oxymoron.

V.R.S.

Post-conciliar Church suffers from the Schroedinger cat syndrome. It is at the same time dead and alive. Dead because it abandoned the life-giving Catholic Faith and the dose of heterodoxy is lethal. Alive - because it has not been officially condemned yet by the Holy Catholic Church.

Boring!

Actually it's not boring. We should never get tired of being horrified and reacting to their continuous destruction of the Church we love so much!

@Boanerges Boanerges But isn't that what this repetition does. Just post the same thing over and over and instead of processing the information we get brain fog and cognitive dissonance sets in. Why are we surprised that modernists do modernist things? What is really new going on here? 'Articles like these show a deeply rooted problem in todays society but very few people want to give the solution. Our Lady of Fatima warned us of the "Errors of Russia" and this is what we get from them. God bless you!

A woman head of Communications, I could care less. It's a secular office, and Jurisdiction* is not necessary.
Being the prefect of Institutes of Religious Life is another matter. On the other hand, she doesn't have to be much to be better than Braz de Aviz,. who was a disaster.
* I don't like the word Governance because it ignores ( or eliminates) the link between Holy Orders and Jurisdiciton.

…“couldn’t” care less.
