I think the Wolga Germans (e.g. Bishop Schneider's family) were moved farther east by Stalin because he thought they would side with the German army. So they ended up in Kazakhstan and Kirgisistan. Now, virtually all of them have moved to Germany.

Yes, and only after the Soviet Union, Russian historians are able to research into the way of living of this ethnic group. It was forbidden until 1990. May be they will start taking care of the ruins...

I would believe that the discussion was about whether the old chapel should be torn down or not or whether it could not be enlarged.
