"What are we willing to do, how do we protect our allies and member states while giving Russia guarantees for its own security the day it returns to the negotiating table?"
"In the coming weeks, we need to help Ukraine resist, help Ukrainians persevere, continue to help militarily, avoid escalation, and therefore intervene very carefully to protect the power plants and prepare dialogue for the day when everyone comes back to the table," the President also detailed as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on 24 February, continues. However, he clarified, "There is one thing that depends on the Ukrainians, that is the question of borders. There is one thing that we have to prepare, and we have also talked about this with President Biden, that is the security architecture in which we want to live tomorrow."
So Emmanuel Macron spoke about Russia's fears of NATO and Vladimir Putin's fear that the alliance could come to his doorstep. "This issue will be one of the factors for peace, and that is why we have to prepare it: What are we prepared to do, how do we protect our allies and member states while giving Russia guarantees for its own security the day it returns to the negotiating table?" asked Emmanuel Macron.
"What is at stake in Ukraine are the principles of the United Nations Charter, namely territorial integrity and national sovereignty," Emmanuel Macron further reminded, who "believes in the freedom of peoples to determine themselves". Finally, the President assured that France would continue to supply weapons to Kiev.
