Bishop Strickland: Why Did Leo XIV Appoint a Bishop Celebrated by Pro-Homosexuals?
Monsignor Hennen began his career within the Catholic organisation “Courage”, which is known for helping homosexuals to live chaste. However, his views then changed. In recent years, he has started to believe in "transgender identities", even using the transvestite flag to illustrate an article.
On 10 July, Bishop Strickland wrote about Monsignor Hennen's pro-homosexual opinions in recent years, focusing on his 2023 diocesan 'Guidelines for Pastoral Accompaniment of Sexual and Gender Minorities' (below). They advocate for the acceptance and inclusion of "transgender" persons. These guidelines were widely praised by homosexual propagandists such as NCRonline.org and Fr James Martin SJ.
Conservatives like the English journalist Damian Thompson ("Bishop Strickland appears to have got this wrong") and the social media existence 'Catholic Sat' mocked Strickland for his criticism ("Since when was NCR a reliable source ").
Following the backlash, Bishop Strickland intensified his criticism on the pro-homosexual appointment.
Monsignor Hennen’s guidelines "speak more about 'inclusion' and 'listening' than about conversion, repentance, or truth", Bishop Strickland explains: "Much of the language in this document, as well as statements attributed to Fr Hennen, implies that it is the Church's perennial teaching itself that is the source of harm — a dangerous suggestion."
Bishop Strickland adds that the guidelines promote "the false anthropology behind gender ideology".
He pointed out that the homosexual propaganda organisation New Ways Ministry helped to draft the guidelines, which they then described as "a milestone for LGBTQ+ pastoral care".
Monsignor Strickland asks the right question: "Why would Pope Leo appoint a bishop whose record is openly celebrated by those who reject the Church’s moral teachings?"
The good bishop doesn’t want to wait until "every appointment is compromised" and thus every diocese is confused.
