Leo XIV Received Attacker of Opus Dei
Today, Pope Leo XIV received Gareth Gore in audience. Gore is a British financial journalist who has attacked Opus Dei in recent years.
Since his election, Leo XIV has met with the leadership of Opus Dei twice to discuss the revision of their statutes.
Opus Dei as "Abusive Cult"
Gore's most notable book is Opus: The Cult of Dark Money, Human Trafficking and Right-Wing Conspiracy Inside the Catholic Church (2024).
He presents a caricature of Opus Dei, claiming that the organisation has built its influence through networks of members in business and finance, including figures linked to Banco Popular Español. He speaks of an "abusive cult".
Gore describes a strict internal discipline and secrecy, and alleges that Opus Dei engages in coercive recruitment and exploitation.
He invents that some assistants (women who perform domestic work in Opus Dei centres) are victims of human trafficking.

Reforms of Opus Dei may well be needed, I wouldn’t know, but this guy is using his campaign against them in part to push an anti-Catholic agenda. I heard he is even a pro-abort.

Their goal is money and power, and they plan to eventually put one of their members on the throne or Peter. Their secret society is indicative of a cult, and some members have stated they were not allowed to leave...Their quest for money and power have allowed them to place members in the highest echelons of power in the vatican.
