Spain: Salesians Turn Beautiful Church into Spaceship
The church, called María Auxiliadora, opened its doors in 1960, five years after a school attached to it began operating.
It was deeply rooted in the neighbourhood and once had a beautiful Baroque sanctuary with the Crucified Christ presiding over it. Now it has fallen victim to extremist iconoclasm.
Its new main feature is a boring emptiness. It will not attract new vocations, much less the ordinary faithful, starting with children.
The work of destruction was financed by the Madrid Inspectorate of the Salesians, which also directed the work.
Commentators on social media have shown no understanding for this madness. With its white walls and lights," said one, "they have managed to make the church look like the lobby of an Intergalactic Federation spaceship."
