In September 2016, the eloquent Italian politician Matteo Salvini presented himself to journalists holding a T-shirt criticising Pope Francis' modernism and pro-mass-immigration propaganda.
In the meantime Salvini has become the deputy prime minister and interior minister of his country.
The T-shirt shows a picture of Jorge Bergoglio and the slogan “Il mio Papa è Benedetto” – “My Pope is Benedict”.
Back in 2016 Salvini commented on Twitter: “We don’t forget the teaching of Pope Benedict XVI”.

I understand the rationale behind the T-shirt slogan however, it seems to me that pope francis [lower casing intentional] is only the "evolution" of Vatican 2. All the Popes, from John XX111 down to our current poor excuse for a pope, have in their turn, intentionally, or otherwise, undermined the faith . All five - I have omitted Pope John Paul 1 for obvious reasons - are, by degree , accountable for the sorry mess of a church we find ourselves in today. We should not forget/minimise that Pope Benedict was a leading advisor to the German Bishops attending the proceedings of V2. [ no pun intended ] To those who sing Benedicts praises, this writer to acknowledges his deeds relating to the Churches Traditions - foremost his championing of the wider use of the Tridentine Mass - but he sorrowfully "missed the boat" when attempting to urge fellow theologians, Bishops, and laity to interpret V2 documents from a traditional standpoint. Leaving that aside, a question often 'pops' into my mind, namely ,"Why is all modern day dissent and turmoil, including two world wars, traceable back to the Germanic people? Just musing.
