According to Cardinal Gerhard Müller a Catholic may conclude that the marriage he contracted in front of the Church was invalid although he has no canonical proof for this.
Talking to the ultraliberal Vatican Insider (December 31) Müller claimed that if such a person enters another liaison, the second liaison would be the one valid before God.
The claim that anybody but an ecclesiastical judge may decide about the validity of a marriage was explicitly condemned by the Council of Trent (1545-1562). Without annulment every second liaison is a mortal sin. Müller therefore presupposes that the annulation process or the canonical form of the Catholic marriage are irrelevant.

1. Without a declaration of nullity from a tribunal judge or bishop, no one can marry in a Catholic Church. Therefore, no such second marriage can be valid.
2. Does anyone know the grounds that are used today to declare marriages null? Arguments like lack of due discretion, psychological incapacity, failure to form a communion of life, exclusion …More

3. If it's all right to decide for oneself whether or not one is married, it's all right to decide all moral issues based on what one "feels". We've had enough of this Freudism. It's time to return to God.
