Oh, I've seen worse, well dependent on, what you think is worse, sheer plain functionality as a table - turned alter with no sacred value ( i.e. the norm of relics and ritual blessings etc.) Or something truly and hideously, vile, diabolical and UGLY, as in something one would expect from the over-retirement- age - but - it's ok - ' cause -I'm an -avant-guarde- artsy-fartsy-euro- Cardinal- AKA Card …More

As an aside, I have a dear friend from childhood that grew up in a strict German Lutheran household, went to a Lutheran school with his 2 siblings , his mother was the organist and choir director for 45 years and so forth. His Father had a hobby of wood working and has produced some beautiful pieces of furniture over the years. In 1977 his church was expanded and he was contracted to make the " alter table " He did just that. It turned out beautifully and is still in use. It was the second one he made. The first one still resides in his kitchen . It has benches to match. It truly is the table upon which every meal is taken!
Yet, what is so commonly seen in NO parishes? Just that , a common table, not for a sacrifice, a table to share a " common meal", the work of human hands( not divinely inspired either) I realize this post is long and not very interesting, but thanks for bearing through if you could!
