D. Brottier - A CONVERSATION IN 1914 - The Corps of Volunteer Chaplains to the Front Lines.
Jean-Michel Gelmetti Blessed Daniel Brottier, C.S.Sp., 1876-1936, is not very well known in the English language realm since he spent the whole of his life in the French speaking world (France and Senegal). Moreover he is well known in France mostly for two reasons: The O.A.A. orphanage institution that he rescued in 1923 and extraordinarily developed up to 1936, and also for his role as a WW1 chaplain culminating in the foundation with Clemenceau of the UNC in 1919, the largest French Veterans' Association still flourishing today.
In this video, we wanted to insist upon a less known aspect of Fr. Brottier impact over WW1 and the whole 20th century as the co-founder, with his colleague Henri Trilles, of the Corps of Volunteer Chaplains at the Front that was approved by the French Republic only 8 days after the German declaration of the war against France (3 Aug. 1914).
