Out of Hiding: On Saturday for the creation of 19 cardinals by Pope Francis, Benedict XVI made his first public appearance since his abdication a year ago, claiming then that he would live – quote - “hidden to the world”. Benedict entered St. Peter’s Basilica from a side entrance and was greeted with applause by the crowd. He smiled, waved and took his seat in the front row, off to the side, alongside the red-draped cardinals.
A New Saint? Last week the theologians from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints approved a miracle attributed to the intercession of Pope Paul VI. It involves the healing of a child who was predicted to be born with a high risk of brain damage. If the miracle is approved by the dicastery’s cardinals and the Pope, then Paul VI could be beatified within the next few months. Since Paul VI’s death there has been no evidence of a popular devotion for him, which according to Church law is a precondition for a beatification. …More

Nobody doubts about the good will (etc.) of Paul VI, but we all remember what a disaster of a pope he was. The Vatican exposes itself to ridicule and sarcasm if it continues like that. My friend wrote to me last night:
"Everyone knows that the way to reform the Church is to beatify every pope for the past 75 years . . . except Pius XII". 🤦More
