Aging Toward Extinction: Ross Douthat has warned in The Atlantic that Pope Francis’ choices could result in Catholic teaching varying from diocese to diocese. Quote: “Already, the German bishops are telegraphing their intention to move ahead with a Kasper-like approach on Communion for remarried divorcees no matter what happens in Rome.” Douthat seems to ignore that this abuse has been practiced in Germany for decades now. A priest objecting to it will lose his parish and his job. No wonder the Church in Germany is aging toward extinction.
Not Much Left: On Thursday, the German Bishops' Conference published a survey among 8600 Catholic priests and full-time pastoral assistants. 54 percent of priests indicated that they go to confession once a year or not at all. 90 percent of the lay theologians confess once a year or not at all. Only 58 percent of the priests pray at least once a day.
