St Nicholas & Anti-Christian Persecution.
The sermon is given on December, on the Feast of St. Nicholas of Myra. This saint, having died, is nevertheless alive in God, and can be relied upon for guidance and intercessory prayers.
Father then discusses the main theme of the sermon: anti-Christistian persecution. If we look at the life of St. Nicholas, we recognise that his place of origin (Myra; modern day Demre, Turkey) was once Christian and is now empty of Christians. We also notice an anti-Christian bias in the saint’s identity as a Catholic bishop being hijacked by “Santa”, a merchandising tool to replace the Nativity of Christ in the hearts of children.
