Confession without Confession: On February 11th Pope Francis addressed members of the Roman clergy. Only Zenit reported about it. Speaking about confession, Francis claimed that somebody may receive absolution in confession although he remains mute. Quote: “He spoke with the gesture by coming into the confessional.” This openly contradicts Church teaching as stated last time in Reconciliatio et paenitentia by John Paul II in 1984.
More Abuses: Yesterday L’Osservatore Romano published an article by the radical Enzo Bianchi, a layman who is prior of the ecumenical Monastic Community of Bose, Italy. Bianchi is allowed to use the official Vatican newspaper in order to ask for lay preaching during Mass, an abuse that has been decried many times by the recent popes.
He Went Through Hell: Bishop Max Davis, the former head of the Australian Defence Force's Catholic diocese, was accused three years ago of having abused five 13-year-old students in 1969 when …More

Lecz on oniemiał. Wtedy król rzekł sługom: "Zwiążcie mu ręce i nogi i wyrzućcie go na zewnątrz, w ciemności! Tam będzie płacz i zgrzytanie zębów".

Dear Abramo,
I am not a teacher but I think we could learn something from our current pope regarding confession.

Like our current Pope, I was blessed with a merciful disposition and would likely be an excellent confessor. But, not today. My temperament is more suited to the 15th century. As is our current pope, I too would be merciful to a fault. However, on very rare occasions, I might be …More

Like our current Pope, I was blessed with a merciful disposition and would likely be an excellent confessor. But, not today. My temperament is more suited to the 15th century. As is our current pope, I too would be merciful to a fault. However, on very rare occasions, I might be encouraged to administer slightly less moderate penances. 👌

@Uncle Joe: Are you teaching Canon Law somewhere? You left no questions unanswered. Does this mean that those who do not ask the questions will also receive an answer? But which one? (I guess I am getting philosophical....)

Nevertheless, even young children and persons with mental disabilities often are conscious of committing acts that are sinful to some degree and may experience a sense of guilt and sorrow. As long as the individual is capable of having a sense of contrition for having committed sin, even if he or she cannot describe the sin precisely in words, the person may receive sacramental absolution. Those with profound mental disabilities, who cannot experience even minimal contrition, may be
invited to participate in penitential services with the rest of the community to the extent of their ability.

25. In the case of individuals with poor communication skills, sorrow for sin is to be accepted even if this repentance is expressed through some gesture rather than verbally. In posing questions and in the assignment of penances the confessor is to proceed with prudence and discretion, mindful that he is at once judge and healer, minister of justice as well as of mercy (Canons 978, sect. 1; 979; 981)

How about non verbal people? People who are called " autistic" , is it necessary to become verbal ? Shall we just encourage them to come to confession, would they understand ?

I was told that Jesuits were trained in Philosophy. But it seems that candidate Bergoglio remained silent in the exam thus passing it by the help of his mercyful teacher without any clear statement.

@Jungerheld: A few of Francis' pronouncements lack in a strange way contact with reality. If for Francis remaining silent in a confessional equals a confession, then not entering a confessional equals remaining silent in it. Conclusion: Going to confession and not going to confession is the same?

My son visited a Franciscan Monastery when he was 8 yrs. old. He thought it would be, "cool" to go to confession at a monastery. Would Pope Francis say his, "gesture" of entering meant certain absolution? I had a few words to say about it...
