@Ultraviolet, Hello, I write to you in good spirit, seriously. Of course God is omnipotent, even more, He is infinite Good and Beauty, He doesn't need anything, Creation is beyond our grasp, not only as a display of power, but also as the "production" of beings God doesn't need at all (every agent works for an end, God doesn't get anything from creation:it's pure love and generosity, unconceivable …More

But God has a purpose for His creation, He could accomplish it by Himself, in an instant, He wouldn't need the participation of anything, and, thus, there would be no shortcoming or no error or any other kind of vice. But that's not how it works, He created beings to participate His very Nature, so they can act according to their nature and for themselves. He governs everything, but through second causes; and, through them, He gets the whole universe to where He wants. There, you have the origin of evil and suffering, despite an omnipotent, governing and infinitely Good God... Out of everything that is bad and wicked, He gets bigger good, and His Will. Isaiah 53 says: "by His suffering Yaweh's design shall attain fullfilment"... And that's our Salvation! So, yes, God puts Himself in that possition... as well as in the possition of the Debtor and the One who owes gratefullness to us... like when He depended on a certain Virgin in order to Incarnate...That's one of the deeepest secrets of reality, inside the universe and transcending it, to the Essence of the summum Esse subsistens... Greetings, brother, I hope you the best!

Well, perhaps you have a point. I was taking issue with Bishop Schneider's premise that a selfish couple might somehow prevent or restrict God from accomplishing an end, say giving the world a genius. If God wishes a genius to be born, then one shall be. If not from the selfish couple then from a non-selfish one.
This connects to what you are saying. We can choose to participate in God's purpose …More

This connects to what you are saying. We can choose to participate in God's purpose or not. But... if we do not participate, that will not stop God from accomplishing His end. He will simply employ someone more willing.

Yeah, maybe it is so, but they, then, excluded themselves. They chose to fulfill God's Will as earth, not as Heaven.

If you read Genesis you will see that man and woman are co-workers, even co-creators with God. That there are souls who never come to be because their parents chose not to conceive them is no more inconceivable than that there are souls denied the beatific vision because they died without baptism or were aborted before they even got to be born. There are untold millions of them in the last 50 years alone.

"If you read Genesis you will see that man and woman are co-workers, even co-creators with God."
Yes, but they are not co-equals with God, correct? Everything mortal humanity has ever created was made out of material God has given us for the purpose.

Then I have to ask, if God wishes a human soul to live on this earth, how can one selfish couple or even a billion selfish couples prevent this? There are billions more who are not.

This is the central problem I have with Bishop Schneider's claim.

If God wants a genius to come into existence and benefit humanity, Mr. and Mrs. Selfish aren't going to prevent that the way the Bishop claims.

I believe Bishop Schneider could make a more plausible claim if he said, "God will show them the children they might have had who then became other people's children." Imagine the horror of realizing your family name vanished entirely due to your selfishness when it would have been immortalized as the next Mozart?

Even so, I'm extremely reluctant to opine what God will or will not do during a person's final judgement. That takes a courage, or perhaps an outright rashness, I simply don't possess.

You have raised some very interesting questions! Questions that won't be solved in a comment box! 🙂
How does an omnipotent God interact with a finite and contingent creation, especially with humanity, the self-aware and morally free part of that creation?

One could say that as God is the Creator of souls it is He who chooses to which parents those souls are born and that when human parents refuse to co-operate He can choose to send those souls to other parents at that or another time.

This question doesn't just touch on the conception of human beings but on all our actions. Bishop Schneider's remarks also suggest that God will show us all the good that we could have achieved but did not because of our choices not to co-operate with Him. All our actions have consequences we cannot see but we will one day have to face.

So selfish parents are able to prevent God from creating children? Uh... no. being God doesn't work that way. God, by definition, is omnipotent.
