"In 1946, Ireland was the first nation, following Pope Pius XI’s encyclical ‘Quas Primas’ (1925) on the Universal Kingship of Jesus Christ, to publicly recognize Jesus Christ the King, when President de Valera, his cabinet and advisors, and Archbishop McQuaid, officially welcomed Sister Marie of Christ the King, the Messenger of Christ the King, at Dublin Airport in July 1946, President de Valera stating, on behalf of Ireland, ‘Through you I am welcoming Christ the King Himself, Lord of the Universe and of All Nations.’
From 1935 to 1956, the Irish people responded very generously to the work of Christ the King through his French messenger, Sister Marie of Christ the King (1906-1968), a Benedictine of the Blessed Sacrament, for the construction of the Sanctuary of Christ the King, in Paris, France; begun in 1935, completed and consecrated in 1956, it was funded by donations from 33 countries (approximately 80% coming from the Irish people).
