Leo XIV Accepts "Prophetic" Francis’ Pact with United Nations on Universal Fraternity
He uses many evasive phrases to deceive conservatives. A beautiful example is: 'The family remains the primary place of education. Catholic schools collaborate with parents; they do not replace them”.
However, Leo XIV also names the “star that guides” him: the 2020 Global Compact on Education (10.1): “I gratefully accept this prophetic legacy entrusted to us by Pope Francis.”
“It is an invitation to form an alliance and network to educate for universal fraternity.”
This Pact was created in collaboration with anti-Catholic international authorities, including UNESCO, UNICEF, UNDP, OECD, the World Bank and environmental organisations connected with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. .
Leo XIV wants to “renew the economy and politics in the service of humanity; and caring for our common home” (10.1).
The main phrase is: "Five years after the Pact […] It is not enough to preserve: we must relaunch."
And: "The Pact is part of a broader Global Educational Constellation: charisms and institutions, though diverse, form a unified and luminous design that guides our steps in the darkness of the present time."
Leo XIV believes that in the educational context, “one must not raise the flag of possession of the truth” (4.3). For him, Catholic education has the task of "rebuilding fraternity".
Catholic institutions “do not build walls, but bridges” (1.1) and are open ourselves “to welcome and inclusion” (10.1).
They are called upon to collaborate more to civil society, political and administrative authorities, and representatives of the productive sectors and professional categories.
Furthermore, “our institutions welcome students and families who are non-believers or of other religions.” (8.3)
Style note: Leo XIV avoids precise language, overusing colourful metaphors and poetic terms such as 'guiding stars', 'compass', 'navigation imagery', 'the dance of life', 'the kaleidoscope of education', 'stagnant water in the swamp', 'building bridges', and so on. He follows a vague optimism and distrusts truth and Catholic authority, favouring dialogue, emotion and secular authority instead.
The Catholic Church is the world's largest provider of non-governmental educational institutions.
