Italian Bishops’ Synod Accepts Homosex Document, Supports Homosexual Marches
According to AgenSir.it, the vote was passed with an overwhelming majority (781 in favour out of 809).
The text will now serve as a reference for the Italian Church's guidelines and decisions.
Among the approved proposals is the idea of overcoming "the discriminatory attitude sometimes prevalent in ecclesial circles" and "recognising and accompanying homoaffective and transgender people".
Other proposals include supporting homosexual marches, providing pro-homosexual training for pastoral employees and integrating hardened sinners in adulterous unions, cohabiting couples or civil partnerships into the Church.
Bologna Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, 70, President of the Italian bishops, said that after the approval, “it is now the task of the priests to take it all on board, identify priorities, and involve old and new forces to give substance to the words”.
A special group of bishops will oversee the implementation of the document.
Yesterday, Cardinal Zuppi celebrated Vespers for traditional Catholics in Rome.
