It's so disappointing. We were told that Cardinal Ratzinger chose not to attend the first Assisi event because of doctrinal concerns and now here he is commemorating the same event. One wants to believe that he has developped in a traditional direction but is going slowly to avoid open rebellion by the liberal bishops and priests, but then he does something like this and you wonder where he really is? Doesn't he understand that Assisi-like events do nothing other than to confirm confused Catholics and erring non-Catholics in their pernicious notions that "all religions are more or less good and praiseworthy" (a proposition strongly condemned by numerous popes of the last two centuries prior to Vatican II)? Let us pray for the Holy Father!

Patte, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is not a cultural show or any kind of show for that matter. It is an action that takes place in and outside time and space. It is meant to lift us up to Heaven, not to show us a reflection of ourselves in a mirror. Was the Church wrong or narrow in not giving us "inculturated masses" for 2000 years? It is meant to lift us up to Heaven, not to show us a reflection of ourselves in a mirror. Was the Church wrong or narrow in not giving us "inculturated masses" for 2000 years? This does nothing to prepare our minds and hearts to encounter Our Lord Jesus Christ and His sacrifice. I'm sure the Pope did not enjoy this at all. I just wish he'd had the courage to say no to it.
