all you have to do is count them and make the percentage, you will find IF you remove Mary The Mother of God, pure silent and Queen of Contemplation the list form there is very small indeed. Sad that we cannot have more tolerance in our beliefs as Catholics, did not God make all of humankind and all of creation, who made you the policeman for Him. Practice tolerance, it is more noble than condemnation and name calling.

Dictatorships begin with taking over media to spread lies, pope says

“one is seduced by scandals. Good news isn’t a seductress.” the pope makes an effort to remind us to beware of lies and the courage it take to stand up to truth. Dictatorships are becoming more frequent around the world, we might ask ourselves why. Does it have anything to do with our inability to see truth.

A heretic is defined as a person holding an opinion at odds with what is generally accepted. None of you will like this, ....we humans think we Know the Mind of GOD, What is matter, What is good or evil, etc. The greatest minds of the church have written encyclopedia Britannicas about WHO IS GOD. In the end we must admit the human mind makes words inspired by a God (we hope) .... Words will never define the nature of God, at best words point the way, give us a guide, support our organized belief and INDEED helps us be more loving.

Vatican Prepares Drowsy Church for Abolishing Celibacy

In a church failing to fill the pews and many congregations with out priests to preside, it seems the logical direction to open discussions. We are allowed to change and the church must change as the world is changing.. look at a garden full of plant life and you will see great change in the natural order, good and bad. All creation works together without human intervention and righteousness.

Black, white, jew, prostitute, junkie, war hero, plastic surgeon, corrupt banker, race car driver, etc. all of them have small sins and sinful behavior and effect relationships and environment which surround them. We do not need a church to tell us this is in and this is out, we need to love and respect the rights of others who may not love God our way. That Is A Challenge.! 1,800 years ago Christianity had No formalized Doctrines.

Yes I am a troubled seeker, Christ instructs us to ask, seek, and knock. Seems to me, The Holy Spirit which inspired the Bible and more did not descend and ascend back to the heavens and now we can only argue over who is better, best or right, the question is how do we Loves? We are inspired humans walking in a divine likeness, we leave words and images everywhere, all inspired by God's spirit. Changing the slant and interpretation of words and image does in no way wipe out the influence the Bible story and the profound effect it has had on humanity. Christians are still on a learning journey, often a tortuous one, towards a greater understanding of the "entity" we call God. Let us have a discussion instead of just telling me how wrong i am, where is that love we so desire?
I am heartfelt sorry to offend so many of you, some of this commentary is exactly why we see such turbulence in the Catholic Chruch Institution, and congregations with empty seats.
peace be with you.

But we must also read how the church has changed its teachings about thing over time. Mary our Holy Mother was simply a mother, then the holy virgin, then formed from the immaculate conception and finally she ascends to heaven in a state of divine sleep.

My point is read history of the church as well, we change and we must change, there is nothing in all of Gods creation which does not change.

This concept of Mary being miraculously conceived was declared doctrine in 1854. It was a theological creation which became dogma at considerable expense to women. Ironically, Mary was lifted to the highest place among men, yet somehow, though she was seemingly divine, she had no voice and no ability to act in any other way but constant surrender. Nearly 100 years later another detail of her divinity needed clarification. Where would her divine body go at her death? The Orthodox Church specifically teaches that Mary died a natural death, that her soul was received by Christ upon death, and that her body was resurrected on the third day after her repose at which time her body was taken up into heaven. It was decided Mary did not die but rather “slept”. This statement became an Article of Faith in 1950

Divine Image and Solid Ground

It is good and valuable spiritual surgery to separate, what is you and what is divine.

By definition, icon painting is a surreal practice, an unforeseen collage of mixed up observations. Icon painting is like cutting up shapes and painting down ideas on a board to keep it all still. Sometimes icon painting process wakes you up, you notice your interior in an amazing new light.

I surprised myself by spreading so many icons out on the floor.

I thought it might give the viewer a new way to look at icons. It backfired, it was me who saw my own work in a new way and oh was I surprised. There they were, all lying side by side on the floor, lifeless and in the wrong context. Looking at the patchwork of icons terrified me, it was not only a carpet of color but a testament to lots of time, effort and commitment. Placing them each side by side made one unified image but the most remarkable thing was watching my hand doing it. As I touched each one and each one touched me back, there was a transferal of energy. My mind made fast connections like an electrical charge, connecting space and time with flesh and spirit. Staring into heaven, what do these poorly painted saints see, do they yearn for the divine as I do? For the first time I felt an undeniable sense of grace. Those icon paintings were lying there still as stone staring back at me!

I paint pictures of supernatural beings with million year old dirt.

We are at times blind to all the divine love surrounding us. In reality, we do nothing alone. We are sustained and maintained by a force supporting us at every instant. This force is as dependable as the ground you are standing on. The magic happened when the blindness abates and we see clearly all we have accomplished, all we have been faithful to and the incredible evidence of God's grace.

Tucked away in the colonia, a short distance from the historic downtown area of San Miguel Allende is a jewel of a studio not to be missed. The studio is surrounded by a natural garden of native plants and birds, slightly wild and disorganized. Large windows look out on quiet space.
Where in Mexico can you find enough hand painted icons to cover the floor? The collection of Contemporary Art , Ancient Image, in the Byzantine Icon Studio is vast, from traditional to contemporary, from comical to pious; the work is unique. The well used resource library for iconography is indispensable. Not too many folks in this tribe, part theologian and part comedian. I want to invite you to visit and explore with me conversations about the idea of God and lively attempts to create image as proof of his/her/it’s existence.
ANGELS and SURPRISES
In 1974, eighteen hours after arriving in the colonial town of San Miguel Allende Mexico where I knew no one, nor the language, nor a thing about the culture I saw Valentine Gomez. It was Sunday night, he was walking the promenade around the main square with friends . Valentin had come from the Rancho, 20 kilometers from town. We saw each other and after 3 vueltas around the garden square we knew each other even though we never shared a spoken a word. Ten months later we were married. The first time I painted an icon it was the same kind of experience, powerful, undeniable, direct and precise.

egg tempera by “mary jane miller”
Twenty years into the marriage I suddenly took up the icon painting as a prayer form, seduced by the power of divine image, an active way to integrate a life of action and a focus on spirit. One encounter is all it took to decide the tradition was worth exploring inside and out.
We are a bi lingual, bi cultural marriage between Mexican and the US. Full time artists doing Byzantine Greek Orthodox artwork in Mexico! We have lived between two countries for nearly 40 years, a small farm in Virginia and a three room home in Guanajuato. Valentin is the gardener, carpenter, technician, engineer and general stable influence along with God. Our two personalities could not be more different yet some say we have a unique blend of energy, reflected in our work and lifestyle; a bit of tension, grace and the age old evidence of love. These ancient time consuming techniques have taught us volumes about humanity, life and the energy there of. Please join us one day for Contemporary Art , “Ancient Image, Byzantine Icon Studio .
