We are all philosophers searching for life's meaning. Watching an episode of the Papal Posse the other day, I listened to Fr. Gerald Murray discuss the reason so many young people are coming to the Church. He described the four fundamental questions that encourage a serious examination of life. These questions often lead people, especially the young and idealistic, to make life-transforming decisions. Some people try to drown out the voices of philosophy. They try to ignore these important questions by filling their lives with pleasure and entertainment. St. Augustine certainly did that for a time. But ultimately, most of us are faced with them because we search for meaning. It's only meaning that gives us the will to live when we experience devastating times as Victor Frankl described in his book, Man's Search for Meaning. How would you answer the four questions? Where did I come from? This questions closely ties into the question, Who made me? For those of us raised on the Baltimore …More
How do you rebel in a culture that encourages every kind of evil and insanity on the planet? When tattoos and body piercing and weird haircuts and colors are the rage, when perversion is accepted and even honored as "pride" -- well...how do you rebel against that kind of freak show society? When you're surrounded by a meaningless circus atmosphere, it seems to me that the only answer is, "Stop the world; I want to get off." Sadly, many feel that way, so the suicide rate skyrockets:

Conservative Catholics have objected to the weaponization of the Holy Door symbolism by LGBT+ groups that intend to subvert its meaning by calling upon the Church instead to repent for …
The county fair begins tonight with the pageant for Miss Shenandoah. We drove by the fairgrounds last night and saw the midway going up. It gave me a little thrill remembering the days when I anticipated a visit to an amusement park with joy. It also reminded me of a couple who were important to me when I was in 8th grade. I met Bob first. He drove the school bus from Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish school. In fact, he drove two routes, taking the first group home and returning to school for the second run. He was tall and thin with a receding hairline and a mustache. I can see him now in my memory, a gentle, soft-spoken man. I always sat in the front seat and I usually rode the first bus run as well as my own second route since I was on the safety patrol. You remember right? - the students who went out with a flag to make sure children crossed the street safely. I had a long time to chat with Bob on those two bus runs. Bob and his wife, Jeanette, never had the children they wished for …More
