The Gospel for this 4th Sunday after Easter is from the 16th Chapter of St. John. That chapter begins thus: “These things have I spoken to you that you may not be scandalized. … yea the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth a service to God. … But these things have I told you, that when the hour shall come, you may REMEMBER that I told you of them.” We live in a time of many scandals with many people falling away. We live in a time when across the world, Christians are being killed simply for being Christian, with those doing the killing thinking they are doing a service for God. Although trials for Christians have always been present in every age, they are becoming more and more universal and close to home. In this 16th chapter of St John’s Gospel, Our Lord tells us if we remain faithful we will have the help of the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost. He also says those of the world unwilling to be true followers of Christ will indeed be convicted of their evil ways. “And when He is come, He will convince the world of sin, and of justice, and of judgment.” Let us, then, take His Majesty’s statement about REMEMBERING as our theme today, because, as He says, the memory, properly used, is what will save us from falling away, from being scandalized. It is what will help us gain the victory over sin, temptation and even endure a painful martyrdom. For more please visit reginaprophetarum.org & remember to say 3 Hail Marys for the priest
