Cinema: SIGNIS Awards in San Sebastian, Spain.

The jury of the World Catholic Association for Communication has granted awards to Frozen River, an independent movie from the United States by Courtney Hunt and to the movie Still Walking by Hirokazu Kore-Eda, both present at the 56th edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain (www.sansebastianfestival.com).

The jury's press release from Signis stated that, "The SIGNIS Prize went to Frozen River, by Courtney Hunt (USA), for its deep intercultural approach, presenting the story of two women struggling amid racism, a wounded motherhood and human trafficking. In front of a frozen river (highlighted in the film's title), the characters recognize their guilt and discover a new way of hope and forgiveness."

The jury awarded its commendation to the Japanese film Still Walking, by Hirokazu Kore-Eda "for the depiction of a family with universal characters, the very old parents are visited by their children on a summer day; Together, they have the chance to remember their loved ones; creating a significant space for common prayer and reflection".

Signis (www.signis.org) is a non-governmental international organization composed of numerous communication associations in 95 counties of the world. The promotion of quality cinema aimed towards human and spiritual values belongs to its institutional programming.
