Tomáš Halik, the Czech priest and philosopher and leading advocate for dialogue among different faiths and non-believers, has won this year's Templeton Prize.
Halik, 65, who risked imprisonment for illegally advancing religious and cultural freedoms after the Soviet invasion of his country; and who spent many years counselling liberation leaders such as Václav Havel and Cardinal František Tomášek, was announced as the 2014 Templeton Prize winner at a press conference in London today.
The Templeton Prize, valued at £1.1 million pounds ( about $1.8 million US dollars) is one of the world's largest annual awards given to an individual and honours a living person who has made exceptional contributions to affirming life's spiritual dimension.
