049 L’Agnello di Dio - The Lamb of God.

John the Baptist worked as a hinge between the first and the following of Christ; between seasons, the ancient Promise and the presence of starvation; between two different stories: one in which God might have seemed far away and the one in which the distant God was here instead, close to him.

The Baptist did not yield, the crowd cheered him Messiah but he pointed his finger: "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world." So people followed Christ and then it was on the day of fusion among promise, preparation and fulfillment; successful engagement because the Baptist never thought hiself as God. He chose to remain a humble precursor and then step aside to let Jesus all the free way. In the name of fidelity, which is the name of the Father.
