Whistleblower Exposes Planned Parenthood Malpractice. In October 2017, Mayra Rodriguez sued Planned Parenthood Arizona for wrongful termination. Her job was to review clinical reports and follow up with women who experienced complications after abortions. In 2017, Ms. Rodriguez began to observe a trend of fraudulent and negligent activities by a doctor known fictitiously as “Dr. X”. Reports from Dr. X’s abortions allegedly showed a substantially higher rate of post-abortion complications than other physicians. Complications ranged from extensive bleeding and cramping to perforated uteruses. Concerned for the health and well-being of future patients, Rodriguez reported her findings to the lead clinician of PPA. Rodriguez was assured that her concerns would be addressed. Instead of receiving support, however, she was fired. On August 16, 2019, An Arizona jury unanimously ruled in her favor and awarded her $3 million in damages.
