Unequal treatment. John L. Allen, of the National Catholic Reporter, commented on the absence of Pope Francis at a Beethoven concert held last Friday in the Vatican. According to Allen, Francis had the event dropped because he wanted to meet with over 100 Apostolic Nuncios who were in the Vatican. Allen remembers that back in 2005, Benedict XVI withdrew from a planned Vatican Christmas concert, which led to a spate of angry interviews with musicians and singers as well as speculation that Benedict didn't care for the pop culture feel of the event. His no-show was seen as a haughty gesture of disdain. According to Allen, Francis was luckier: The same act has been praised by the newspapers as an evangelical statement of simplicity.

Fr François Mourad, a Syrian hermit and guest at the Franciscan monastery of St Anthony of Padua in Al-Ghassaniyah, has been murdered. Ghassanieh is a predominantly Christian village near the border with Turkey. The hermit was shot by Islamist insurgents who are supported by the West. In addition, the convent was partially destroyed. Local Franciscans issued an appeal to the West, underlying the dangers of helping armed anti-Assad rebels, who support religious extremists responsible for attacking Christians.

False accusations. The ultra liberal Association of Catholic Priests in Ireland objects to the lack of financial and legal support for priests falsely accused of child sexual abuse. A spokesman for the association told the Irish Independent that the ACP was aware of at least a dozen priests against whom false allegations were made in the past few years. He said there were now sufficient numbers of false allegations to "cause concern" and that the ACP had been directly involved in three recent cases where priests were cleared of wrongdoing. The spokesman declared that - quote - "most priests don't have the financial resources needed to defend themselves and in a great many cases, the church authorities are not willing to help them financially."

Do young girls hate cassocks? An Orthodox blog called Mystagogy reported that a small number of Greek bishops have expressed an openness to relaxing the rule for Greek-Orthodox priests having to wear the cassock. Metropolitan Theoklitos of Ioannina is reported as saying - quote: “The cassock is to blame for young girls not marrying priests or perhaps all of us (are), because we do not allow a priest to take his wife by the arm and go for a stroll. Herein is the problem of pietism which results from mixing with Protestantism. We have falsely made the priest a saint and not allowed God to make him a saint.”

Maybe this will lead to Pope Francis stopping the circus acts (with all their nudity)? And while at it, maybe..have that BIG monstrosity, hideous demonic sculpture thrown out that's located in the Vatican's Paul VI Audience Hall. The statue can often be seen behind the pope during his general audiences. It's 'suppose' to be a statue of "The Resurrection". Good grief..looks like something that one …More
