Most likely next year: On September 30th, Pope Francis will hold a consistory for the proclamation of new saints. At that time, the date for the combined canonization of John Paul II and John XXIII will be made public. Cardinal Angelo Amato announced this at the Meeting of the People in Rimini that is organized each year by the movement Comunione e Liberazione. Amato is the prefect for the causes of saints. Regarding the exact date of the canonization he said: “I think it will be difficult this year, most likely, it will be next year.”
Two more: At the same meeting, Cardinal Amato said that the process of beatification for Paul VI and archbishop Oscar Romero who was killed in 1980 – quote – “advance well”. Asked when these processes will come to an end, Amato said: “This does not always depend on us, the times are also bound by the postulators of the respective causes.”
