3 Mexican Children Among Those Canonized - Perspectives Daily.
saltandlighttv on Oct 16, 2017 We begin Perspectives today in Rome, where the Pope declared new saints at a Mass he celebrated yesterday, October 15, outside in St.Peter’s.
At the beginning of Sunday Mass yesterday, Pope Francis proclaimed 35 new saints, including the "Martyrs of Natal," a group of 30 priests, laymen, women and children who were killed in 1645 during a wave of anti-Catholic persecution in Brazil. Also among the new saints were the "Child Martyrs of Tlaxcala, three children who were among the first native converts in Mexico and who were killed for refusing to renounce their faith, along with two Spanish priests.
Tapestries hung from the facade of St. Peter's Basilica bearing images of the martyrs as well as pictures of Sts. Angelo da Acri, a Capuchin priest known for his defense of the poor, and Fr. Faustino Miguez, a Spanish priest who started a school for girls at a time when such education was limited almost exclusively to boys. An estimated 35,000 pilgrims, many of them visiting from the countries of the new saints, attended this Mass where the Pope said that the saints canonized today, especially the many martyrs, point the way. Christians are called to live their faith as a love story with God, who want a relationship, more than that of devoted subjects with their king.
And immediately after the Mass, the Pope, along with the crowd recited the Angelus prayer and invoked the intercession of the new saints for the success of the next Panamanian Synod and for all peoples of the earth who have walked the paths of peace and justice.
The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization office in Rome received a visit from the Pope earlier today where he marked World Food Day with the theme for the year, as: “Change the future of migration. Invest in Food Security and rural development.” I have this report from CNS.
And finally today, the Pope sent a video-message to pilgrims gathered in Fatima to mark the closing of the Centenary celebrations of the Fatima Apparitions.
"Never be afraid", the Pope said, "God is infinitely greater than all of our problems. He loves us very much. Go forward in your journey without losing sight of the Mother, like a child, who feels safe when close to his mother, we too are safe when close to Our Lady."
In this message, which was broadcast on giant screens at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima on October 13, the Pope recalled his own pilgrimage to Fatima in May and the blessings received and he urged the faithful “never to put the Rosary aside, but to continue to recite it as She asked”.
Here in Canada, a local high school in Brampton Ontario also celebrated the closing of the Centenary celebrations of the Fatima Apparitions.
Cardinal Leger Secondary School with St. Mary’s Church in Brampton, hosted a Centenary Event to Celebrate Our Lady of Fatima last Friday, where over 600 students gathered at Brampton’s City Hall and marched in procession through the streets of downtown Brampton to St. Mary’s Church. Mass was celebrated at the church followed by a dramatization of the Fatima events including the “Miracle of the Sun."
