Which “fire” are you looking for? August 18 2019 XX Sunday of Ordinary Time Dear brothers and sisters, the Gospel of Sunday, August 18, reminds us that Jesus came into the world to bring the "fire" of God's love! A fire which turns on, rejuvenates, enthusiasms and enhances the hearts that welcome it. Actually, our hearts were designed by God precisely to be filled with this fire. But unfortunately there is another "fire" that competes, so to speak, with the Fire of God's love and it is the fire of sin that makes people feel old and decrepit inside even if they are eighteen yers old and are beautiful or handsome; which makes feel weak and fragile inside even if they have an athletic body; which makes feel sad and depressed even if they have all that the world can offer: wealth, power, beauty and success ... In fact, selfishness, the root of all sins, is a suicidal "distortion" of the orientation of the deep inner-self who by refusing to love God and brothers and "closing in himself " , with the diabolical illusion of "becoming" God (see Genesis 3: 5), loses himself into the labyrinths of the depression and of madness. Dear friends, it is this "fire" of selfishness that causes the injustice which, as Pope Francis constantly repeats us, is making the poor cry and is burning "literally", I would say, the Earth. but this injustice, the Pope said, is not invincible! Jesus defeated it and we together with Him can defeat it also with the Fire of God's Love! Dear brothers and sister do you still have doubts on which fire to welcome in your heart?
