Gli Apostoli lo persero di vista perché non capirono che il suo era stato uno scherzo: salire al cielo per nascondersi ovunque sulla terra! Bastava scendere, abbandonare l'oratorio costruito sul monte, e rischiare; bastava questo e lo avrebbero trovato nelle brughiere spazzate dal vento, nei fienili sconosciuti divenuti locande improvvisate, sui crinali delle montagne, sui tetti della città; negli occhi della gente: di Carmelo, il pescatore; di Bernardo, l'assassino; di Giulio, il politico; d’Antonio, il vescovo; di Luigi, che ha smarrito la ragione. Salendo al cielo Gesù voleva stupire gli apostoli e saggiare prima la loro fiducia, ma tra gli uomini l'Ascensione divenne tristezza, in pratica l'esatto contrario di ciò che veramente è: un'esplosione di gioia!
