The Bible should be read more widely.

According to a research undertaken by the Catholic Biblical Federation, reading the Bible still draws our attention and it is still considered an authoritative document. However, the number of people, including believers, who approach the Sacred Scriptures is quite small. The study, undertaken as a preparation for the Bishop's Synod in October, studied how the Bible was read in various countries and will be presented under the title, "Reading the Scriptures in Several Countries." The nations that were examined were the United Kingdom, Holland, the United States, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Poland and Russia. The President of the Catholic Biblical Federation, Bishop Vincenzo Paglia, noted that too few people recognize the Bible as the book of their spiritual life.

The President of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi, stated that creating an interior atmosphere of prayer requires more than just an awareness of the Bible, but a return to the scriptures, their texts and prayer.
