✍️ Fr. Pope thank you for taking time to discuss this. You know both sides and see both sides. As for myself, early on in my conversion I took to the happy, hippy, hand clapping but as I progressed (hopefully) spiritually I came more and more to need a deeper form of expression of my love. Only solemnity and groaning expresses that. It is very human to want to skip over the suffering part and get to the celebration part, but it is only through the Cross do we reach the Resurrection and I do believe a lot of people have gone wrong because they wanted nothing to do with the Cross. Even the Stations of the Cross have either been removed or changed to such an extent that it is impossible to see the Suffering Saviour in them. More and more I appreciate that we are at Calvary when we attend Mass. I find it so disturbing to see people hoppin' and boppin' at Calvary. Such shallow music is like giving a hungry people sweeties instead of meat to strengthen them on the journey. St. Teresa of Avilla in spite of her soaring experiences in prayer tells us we must always come back to our meditation of Jesus crucified, and then we cannot go wrong. Again I do appreciate your tackling this subject as it has become divisive and for sure you are very knowledgable on the matter. - Blessings - Rene
