Naaman and Elisha
October 13 2019 XXVIII Sunday of Ordinary Time

Dear brothers and sisters, the passage of the first reading of the holy Mass of Sunday, October 13, a passage from the second book of the Kings, which concludes the beautiful story of the healing of the Syrian General, Naaman, by God through the Prophet Elisha, makes us understand the path that man must take to meet the living God, to know him not by hearsay, but personally. Summarizing to the maximum we can say that Naaman, Commander in chief of the Syrian army, after finding out he was getting down with leprosy 1) first of all, he accepts his condition and makes no secret of his need for salvation. 2) Then, he believes in the Israelite slave who tells him about the man of God residing in Israel, the prophet Elisha, able to heal him in the name of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 3) For this reason, he decides to leave his country and his gods in the hope of meeting the Prophet of Israel and relying on his intercession. 4) Arrived at the house of the man of God, he strips himself of his pride, and of his haughtiness and humbly does the will of God who, through his Prophet, orders him to bathe seven times in the Jordan River. 5) Finally, after experiencing the purity of God's love that heals him for free he decides, from then on, not to love, nor to worship any other god except the only true God, the God of Israel..
