Benedict XVI meets with the Premier of Luxembourg.

Benedict XVI received the Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Jean-Claude Juncker. The small country of 500,000 people located between France and Germany has a strong tradition of good Church-State relations that are regulated by an official Concord. Luxembourg's role in Europe is well established, having joined the European Union at the group's foundation in 1952. The Diocese of Luxembourg was erected on September 27, 1870, and was raised to the status of an Archdiocese on April 23, 1988 by John Paul II. The current Archbishop of Luxembourg is 74 year-old Archbishop Fernand Franck, who has reigned since December 21, 1990.
