Kenya’s Catholic bishops are charging two United Nations organizations with sterilizing millions of girls and women under cover of an anti-tetanus inoculation program sponsored by the Kenyan government.
According to a statement released Tuesday by the Kenya Catholic Doctors Association, the organization has found an antigen that causes miscarriages in a vaccine being administered to 2.3 million girls and women by the World Health Organization and UNICEF. Priests throughout Kenya reportedly are advising their congregations to refuse the vaccine.
“We sent six samples from around Kenya to laboratories in South Africa. They tested positive for the HCG antigen,” Dr. Muhame Ngare of the Mercy Medical Centre in Nairobi told LifeSiteNews. “They were all laced with HCG.”

ROME — The start of the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family has triggered a wave of activism from well-funded LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered) activist groups in the U.S., who are targeting “outspoken” Catholic bishops in hopes of changing Catholic practice and moral doctrine.
“Most important is the opportunity to create a precedent for change,” the Human Rights Campaign said in its pamphlet on the synod.

Rome – While stressing the basic “trustworthiness” of a recent blockbuster interview with Pope Francis by Italian journalist Eugenio Scalfari, Fr. Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, left room on Oct. 2 for the possibility of small imprecisions.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, who was among the cardinals who elected Francis, today confirmed one such error – a point of fact, as it happens, with important implications for understanding the immediate reaction of Pope Francis to his election.
Dolan told NCR that in contrast to the scene described by Scalfari, there was no moment when Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina left the Sistine Chapel after his election but before accepting the papacy.

Father Daniel McFalls, 58, recently stunned parishioners when he admitted to fathering a congregant’s baby. But in the wake of his son’s birth, the suspended priest has another message sure to send shock waves through Catholic leadership: McFalls wants the church to allow priests to marry.
As for his son, who was born on Saturday, the embattled faith leader expressed joy, despite the pains related to stepping down, in an interview with The New York Daily News.
“When that little baby was born at 5:22 a.m., it was the happiest moment of my life, along with my ordination,” McFalls said. ”Nothing on earth equals the joy I feel when I see his little face. Same-sex marriage gay-bashing conference

For several reasons, reports in two local English newspapers on a press conference this week interested me. The parley with the press was on the subject of possible legislation that would legalize same-sex marriage in Taiwan. I care about how society and individuals treat gays and lesbians. So, the newspaper coverage seemed important to me. The fact that religious leaders spoke against the possible legislation also interested me. As a Catholic priest, I somehow am a religious leader. How we religious leaders treat people matters to me.
The final and, in a way, least important reason this news event has stayed with me is that journalists for the two papers made slightly different decisions on English vocabulary (while managing to agree on the register of the language) in the process of translation from Chinese into English. Translation and language are academic areas close to my heart.
