Station 2 – Jesus Takes Up the Cross.

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

Jesus receives the heavy rough wooden cross he will be crucified upon. He took the weight of injustice upon his shoulders! The wood symbolizes His connection to earth and to humanity. With each step he unites himself to our human experience and teaches us to not turn away from injustice but to stare at it without flinching. He accepts the path of human misery and suffering that is part of our human life and shows us how to say “yes”.

Each and every one of us has a cross to carry. Whether illness, emotional turmoil, physical deformity etc. each of us must carry on with what we have been given. No one can walk for us, there will be no short cuts, or payback. John 21:18 “but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go."

Each and every one of us has a cross to carry. Whether illness, emotional turmoil, physical deformity, etc. each of us must carry on with what we have been given; no one can walk for us, and there will be no short cuts, or payback.

Almighty God, whose beloved Son willingly endured the agony and shame of the cross for our redemption: Give us courage to take up our cross and follow him; who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.
