Diocesan Delegate: "Bishop Prevost’s Investigation Was Joke, Poorly Done, Had Formal Errors"
She has claimed since 2020 that she and her two sisters were sexually abused as children by Padre Eleuterio 'Lute' Vásquez. Padre Lute has admitted to wrongdoing.
During a recorded meeting in April 2025, the diocesan delegate, Father Gambaro, acknowledged that the initial investigation conducted by Bishop Prevost in 2022 was inadequate. Ms Quispe quotes Fr Gambaro as saying: 'The preliminary investigation was a joke. Very poorly done. With formal errors, even.'
She adds that, by granting Father Lute a dispensation from the priesthood, Leo XIV has effectively prevented a canonical trial that could have determined his responsibility and provided justice for the victims.
And: “Granting a dispense to Eleuterio Vásquez is also especially irresponsible given that there are witnesses who have publicly stated that he frequently took other children to the same room where we were abused. That information, which should have triggered every alarm, demanded a deep and urgent investigation — not the definitive closure of the case.”
While failing to act in the Quispe case, both as bishop and as Curia Cardinal, Cardinal Prevost was very active in pursuing justice against 'Sodalitium Christiane Vitae'. This association was faithful to the doctrine and liturgy, but its founder and senior members were corrupted by homosexuality. Cardinal Prevost collaborated closely with journalists Paola Ugaz and Pedro Solinas to expose wrongdoing and dissolve the association.
Quispe accuses the journalists involved in her case of manipulating her testimony in order to defend Prevost and shield the Chiclayo diocese from scrutiny. Elise Ann Allen's biography of Leo XIV avoids the central question of whether a real investigation occurred.
