The Bible and Charity.

For 40 years a group of laity have been meeting daily to meditate on the word of God and to try to live it, especially with those most in need.

They form the Community of San Egidio, now present in over 70 countries in the world. Its founder, Andrea Riccardi, participated in the Synod of Bishops and speaks on the importance of communicating the Word of God:

"The Church speaks, bears and communicates the word of God, I hope that this Synod is the beginning of a new season in which all of us become disciples of the Word of God and communicate it through word of mouth."

Prayer, communication of the Gospel, and friendship with the poor in service of peace are some of the pillars of this lay association of the Catholic Church, which listens attentively to the Word of God.

"The Bible illuminates the face of the poor and reminds us that to be close to the poor is to be close to Jesus."
